Sintered Neodymium arc magnet
Key Benefits
The strongest magnets in the world. Far better permanent magnetic performance compared with traditional magnets, but the price is relatively low. (by weight about 20times Ferrite magnet, by dollars per BHmax about 1.5 times Ferrite magnet)
Wide range of grades with new ones regularly being developed.
Available from very small sizes to large blocks.
Relatively easy to machine, compare to AlNiCo and Smco magnets
High resistance to demagnetization.
Key Challenge
Brittle and hard.
Properties deteriorate rapidly at temperatures in excess of about 1500C (depending on grade and permeance coefficient magnet is operating at) The highest working temperature can be 2300C (AH grade L-T Series).
Need to be protected against oxidation—by coating or plating the magnets.
Quick Facts
Density: 7.6g/cm3
Saturation magnetizing field required: about 25KOe
Shape Available: blocks, bars, discs, rings, arc segments, etc.
Grade Available:N35 to N53,N,M,H,SH,UH,EH, AH series
Size: the largest can be 150mmx150mmx50mm, the smallest can be 2.00mmx1.50mmx0.50mm for the block shape.
Machine: Neodymium magnets should be machined by grinding using diamond wheels. However, of the hard magnets materials, neo magnets are the least difficult to machine.
